Buffalo Soldiers
Halfway amusing, halfway obvious satire about the American army trying to kill time and make money while in Berlin in 1989. Because they are mostly former criminals, forced into the military to avoid jail time, they devise ways to abuse the black market. I smiled a few times and I giggled once or twice. Joaquin Phoenix is acceptable in the lead, Scott Glenn plays a part he’d done a 100 times as the villain, Ed Harris is goofy for once, Anna Paquin is cute. The ending is annoyingly cute and a cop-out considering the darker material that preceded it. Like Three Kings mixed with Stripes, but without fangs.
